MFSM - Aug/Sept 2011 Print E-mail

In August and September we welcomed the TA's newest members to the highs and lows of watching Scotland...

To the Czech Republic match - 14 children with learning difficulties, supported by Aberlour Child Card Trust's up in Moray

To the Lithuania match - 14 children supported by CL:IC Sargent (caring for children with cancer)...here's a few details about the children ( a some comments from their parents about the work CS do for them):
Jason McLeod (14) was diagnosed in 2006 with Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) – off treatment and doing really great.

Ethan Steven (6) was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma (brain/spinal tumour), now suffers from osteoporosis and is recovering from two major operations. CS has been wonderful – family would have been lost without them.

Scott Hart (13) was diagnosed with ALL in 2009 and is due for bone marrow tests in the next few weeks. It's more than likely that he'll require a transplant – mum thinks this being mentioned will help to highlight the importance of being on the register. She intends emailing me with her views on what CS has meant to the family and I'll forward it to you once I receive it.

Steven Brennan (6) was diagnosed in 2005 with ALL – not long into his treatment he suffered a stroke and meningitis which left him deaf. The family feel that CS has been absolutely brilliant and 'loves us all to bits'.

Owen McQuillan (9) was diagnosed with ALL in 2007. It's now over a year since he finished treatment and has made fantastic progress. He loves football, trains with one of the local teams and is now back swimming again – his other love. CS and MSH in particular was a godsend. The family loved their holidays at MSH as they would be on the beach at every possible opportunity, Owen going into the sea even when he still had his Hickman line in.

As well as their match tickets each kid will have a brand new Scotland top and £10 pocket money for a programme, juice and pie (if there are any left...)

Feedback included...

"Thanks again for making this experience so wonderful for the children that CS are looking after. Despite the atrocious weather, they really enjoyed themselves."

Richard Donald from CLIC Sargent

A few of the comments I received from the parents were: -

‘Our son was so excited, never been to such a big stadium, loved the fireworks and all the food – just what he needed as he’s begun playing football’

‘Our son absolutely loved it – had a ball.  We’d arranged for a friend to pick us up at half-time as we thought he’d have had enough by then but phoned our friend to tell him not to come until the end of the game’

Lastly a MASSIVE thanks to Scotland's referees (SFFRA) who raised a brilliant £8,500 for TACC to fund these MFSM trips.
